100 Words a Day 919

A series of distant booms alerted us to the cracking of the icy peaks that shot up from the ground like boney fingers. We watched with a mixture of disbelief and chagrin as two large knuckles sheared away from the lower digits and crashed together, sealing behind us the frigid pass we had used to access the bumpy ice field we found ourselves mired in.


“What will we do now?” Smiths asked. Unlike the better part of the crew, the heating unit in his enviro suit hadn’t started to fail and he was able to speak without uncontrollably chattering teeth.

100 Words per Day 918

“It says the atmosphere is breathable,” Grink said, shrugging. “But that’s assuming the instruments weren’t damaged in the crash.”

“We’ve got to chance it if we are ever going to home,” Jorg replied, donning his helmet. Pointing at Sleer, “You’re on the airlock.”

Sleer nodded and positioned herself by the door controls.

The remaining crew put on their hazardous environment suits and prepared to explore the lush forest of the planet they found themselves stranded on.


When the outer door of the ship opened with a hiss, they found themselves in a sea of blue foliage of every imaginable shade.

100 Words a Day 917


In the sea of writhing flesh and bloody steel, we stood on an island of unmoving corpses. The man across from me was a head taller than any other I had seen and was bound with bronzed muscles. He stalked towards me like a great cat testing an unfamiliar branch, reaching out with his foot to examine the surety of his step. His giant arms seemed to vibrate in anticipation of our meeting. As he neared I saw that he had no face, only a black void lit by two red eyes. Red like the color of the rising sun.
