It was a pebble that the cat found on the floor. To her,
it was useful as a toy because it was uneven and would bounce erratically. She didn’t
care that it was a sunset shade of purple or that there were no other pebbles
like it. The pebble was porous, making it light and allowing the cat to bat it
to and fro with ease. It made an alluring sound as it bounced along the stone
floor, causing the cat to chase it with even greater fervor. The pebble’s only
respite came in the form of a cat nap.
