I waited across from school while the funeral procession
passed through the crosswalk. It was the second this week. And I hardly noticed
them anymore. The Last Year students were preparing for their Greatest Exam,
and determining their place in the world. The stress was always too much for a
couple of them. It was sad whenever it happened, but people shrugged their shoulders.
Those kids obviously weren’t cut out for the real world. Once the cars had
passed, I crossed the street and entered the school. I gave it no more thought
as I sat down at my desk.
