The ship was enormous. It had to be to have avoided being
upturned in the Endless Sea. The deck was hidden beneath a canopy of trees, who
I assumed were the only inhabitants. Being captured by a wild man disabused me
of that notion. It was from him that I learned that his island, as he described
it, was quite regularly invaded by curious or greedy sailors, despite drifting through
the water and away from well-known sea lanes. I was surprised, and
disconcerted, to learn that he encountered them frequently enough to make them
a regular feature of his diet.
