It was a cupcake tasting. Each was bite-sized and ranged
in quality from generic store brands up to artisanal.
She was able to tell the difference easily. The store
brand cupcakes were dry and tasted of unfettered sugar. Even the sample sizes
she ate didn’t sit well with her.
In contrast, the artisanal cupcakes lacked the same
vulgar flavor. Their sugariness was sculpted. The tastes of the frosting
blended perfectly with the cake and any toppings.
Her favorite was birthday cake flavored. The frosting
tasted just like birthday cake ice cream and the cake itself had sprinkles
baked into it.
