100 Words a Day 787

In retrospect, a dictatorship would have been better than what resulted. At least the the army wouldn’t have been turning their weapons on each other, and any civilians who didn’t agree with them.

Half the army remained loyal and did their best to keep the government in power. That proved impossible as the disloyal half simply destroyed any civic building and bunker they could find. What followed was the most powerful military force in the world imploding on itself. While the leaders of each side refrained from going nuclear, that might have been preferable to the century-long war that resulted.
