“That was the new single off the album Filtering Out The
Suxxxx, by Soft Vacuum Heads,” the DJ said as the outro faded.
“Most people don’t know this, but Soft Vacuum Heads is
from a small suburb of Detroit. Sort of a Redbelt suburb, rather than a bedroom
community. At one point, there was a vacuum factory there. When it was moved
overseas to cut manufacturing costs, it left the local economy in shambles. The
band’s music is influenced by the sudden socioeconomic decline of not only
their personal lives, but the lives of their friends and neighbors as well.”
