My drafty, rented room fell away as I went into my
meditation. As I began contemplating Deep Time, the sound of hooves on the cobblestone,
the calls of the vendors, and all the other sounds of the outside world blended
together and finally into silence. The next thing to vanish were the base
smells of humanity, rotting food, waste, and sweat. With a long, slow exhale I
left Terra and began to move among the stars towards the places where time
began. My mind wandered among the eons that predated man, even the creation of
the universe I was inhabiting.
