100 Words a Day 822

He grabbed a sword mounted on the wall of the captain’s cabin as he scrambled away from the pursuing crew. The handle was stylized like a bat. The wings made up the cross guard while the blade seemed to emerge from the bat’s mouth.


The first crewman came forward wielding an axe. The man thrust the strange sword into the sailor’s belly. As it slid in, the bat’s eyes began glowing red. The crewman began spasming and the color drained from his skin, leaving him unnaturally pale. He made a choking noise. Simultaneously, the steel of the blade turned crimson.
