100 Words a Day 1078

Omar pulled the car over. He and Chris got out and practically fell onto the sidewalk. The sun warmed pleasantly them while the cool breeze brought the fresh smell of water from the bay. They were done with their last set of exams, forever, and the wonderful weather made them relax further into the cement.


Once the elation waned to a warm glow, they drove to La Corneta, their favorite burrito restaurant. Unable to stop smiling, they splurged on Mexican cokes and ate with the excess of the suddenly stress-free. Lethargy of satiation overcame them shortly after they finished eating.

100 Words a Day 1077

Jason left the meager protection of the bus shelter to look down the street again, still no bus. He swore softly as he resumed his shivering vigil in the hut. It cut the wind a little, but did nothing for the winter chill.


His stomach rumbled. He hadn’t eaten that day, and the lack of energy made him feel colder. He’d had to take the day off work to go to a job interview and hadn’t been able to buy enough food as a result. The recruiter never got back to him and he assumed he had been passed up.

100 Words a Day 1076

Morg stood in the shadow of an alley and watch the children gathering in front of the itinerant’s wagon. The buzzing children quieted when the door opened. After a dramatic moment, an elf emerged.


Like all elves, he was slight. His black hair was short, not even reaching halfway down his forehead. One could trace a distinct V from the tip of his chin to the points of his ears. His pupils were dark purple with flecks of gold. The color of his skin was hard to say; where it was exposed he had covered himself in white oil paint.
