Despite the new propulsion system, it took two weeks to
reach the planet where the signals had been coming from.
“Anything?” Captain Killackey asked, steaming coffee cup
in hand and eyes crusty with sleep.
“Preliminary data is coming in. Lots of water, which we
already knew. Some sparse signs of what could be life. And it looks like most
of that water is ice. On the surface at least.”
“Ice? That doesn’t make sense. It’s much too close to the
star to be all ice.”
“I’m as confused as you are captain. Hopefully we’ll find
out when we get there.
