I slurred, “there’s something in my drink,” to myself before
blackness overtook me.
I bucket-full of frigid water snapped my eyes open. I was
in a room of indeterminate size, but the space around me was illuminated by a
number of candles on tall stands, arranged in a circle. Two people, at least I
hoped they were people, stood before me, the shape of their bodies and their
faces hidden by voluminous robes with deep hoods.
“Please allow me to apologize Mr. Aegis for your abrupt
awakening. The urgency of our mission prevents us from offering a more
civilized reception.”
