100 Words a Day 1066

Harris’s heartbeat quickened when he felt the buzz in his pocket. He pulled his phone from his pocket, hoping it was news about the job. He recognized the name of the recruiter and the subject line, but deflated when he read the preview of the body.

“Dear Harris, thank you for taking…”


He cleared the message, face screwed up with disappointment, and put his phone back in his pocket, much more slowly than he had removed it. Returning his attention to his lunch, he opened his mouth to take another bite of his sandwich, but found his appetite had fled.
