I answered the polite knock at the door and was confronted by a short man in an expensive suit.

“James Field?” he asked.

“Yes.”

“I’m Gary Young, from Smith Property Management.”

“What can I do for you?”

“I’m here because you haven’t been making your payments and to serve you this notice,” he said, holding up a piece of paper. “You need to vacate the premise immediately.”

“What are you talking about? I’ve been sending a check every month. The money has been taken out of my account.”


“That’s not what our records reflect,” he said before turning and leaving.
