Steph peeked around the corner. Cars were scattered about
the wide road, abandoned by drivers fleeing for their lives. There was no
movement. There was no sound. No smells. Steph scanned the silent skyscrapers,
searching for any movement or anomaly. Seeing nothing, she sprinted across the
divide towards the next alley. She paused entering, listening for movement.
Hearing nothing, she checked the street again before continuing forward. She
repeated her nervous survey when she reached the next street, and so on until she
reached the edge of downtown. Travel became more dangerous without the network
of alleys to hid in.
