100 Words a Day 894


She struck her flint, sending sparks showering down on to the oil-soaked torch. The flame came to life, causing her to look away from the sudden brightness and shut her eyes. When she opened them again, she was surprised to find the cavern well-lit. The light cast by the flickering torch was refracting through the crystals growing out of the walls and ceiling. The myriad shapes and colors sent rainbows bouncing across the uneven chamber. Studying the chamber floor, Eva was unable to find a safe route to the exit on the other side. It was littered with broken crystals.
