100 Words a Day 958

The descent into pitch black was slow and silent. I watched the depth gauge tick away, impatient for the beep that would indicate I was far enough down. It wasn’t long after the last of the blue tint disappeared that I began to see the bioluminescent animals I had read so much about and watched videos of. They were alien creatures whose bodies were made of unusual shapes and unfathomable features.

The smaller ones were likely to feed on plankton. Their behavior reflected this; they paid each other no heed, but simply rode the deep currents to wherever they led.
